I've been learning 5 hours chemistry today, drew for about 6 hours on my Ledah-pics,... and am totally tired xD So don't blame me for this and just skip if you have better things to do ;P

The following things I posted are more for bemusement-purpose than serious! So don't blame me or feel offended!!! I really meant all of this is a funny way :D Kinda stole the idea from a friend though :XD:

How to get attention from a popular artist

After breaking the 100k-pageview border, a looooot of things change for artists at DA. They are officially popular. And it is not rare that not so popular artists try to gain their attention...

Here a little guide how to NOT do it!!

-It is funny how people think by writing artists notes with over 1000 words of how their OCs are totally wonderful and special will change the statement they clearly posted on their front page 'This Artist DOESN'T do Requests!'. If you truly admire someone's art, either wait until he/she opens requests or ask for an arttrade (if the artist didn't state somewhere he/she doesn't do them that is) or, the best solution: Buy a commission! Those artists doing commissions usually get in contact with you, talking a little with you about the chara they are supposed to draw, so they get an idea of your OC. That's a nice way to get into talking with a popular artist without spamming his/her inbox... OTL

-By the way: Asking about arttrades and requests if you are a total stranger, never ever commented on anything of the artist before isn't really a good way either... >_> Honestly, would you offer your precious time for someone who only faves and runs? Or came across your page just today by coincidence? Uhm, I think not. There are of course artists that never ever answer any comments, probably not even reading them, but posting a couple of comments on someone's work (something else than 'KAWAII!!' or 'Looks AWESOME!' is always nice! Show the artist you actually looked at the work instead of using a comment that could apply on ANY picture here on DA... =P lol) anyway, this always stays in an artist's mind and by staying in contact with him/her you might even start developing some kind of... artist-fan-relation... lol It is much more amusing writing with them, and often in these conversations the artist even gets ideas for new pics! (I think the people I'm talking about know exactly I mean them xD  ) and for those artists would rather draw something than for people never commenting on anything =P Can you follow me?? Good~

-One comment I will NEVER ever forget was one I got about 1 year back: "Hey! Dunno if you noticed but I watched u. Aren't you goin to watch me back?" ... I thought people watch artists for their art, not watch-backs =P Such comments are a NO-GO!

-Sometimes people comment on front-pages of popular artists... a lot of popular artists... with exactly the same comment... =P It's not very intelligent to post the very same comment on about half of the community's popular artists' frontpages and think that they won't notice it... >_> Almost as bad as those 'I watched you, watch me baaaaaaack!!!' things xD

-Oh a personal note, as I am one of the few artists offering linearts in fullsize to color: Comments like 'Uh, today I don't have time to color this' ... with NOTHING else in the comment aren't really necessary either... =P lol Honestly guys, I'm posting the stuff for YOU to color and practice! If you manage to color them or not is your business, not mine. Okay, scrap that, I'm posting the stuff for myself... I wanna see many pretty and different color-variations!!! *.* (Funny how we apply colorschemes on our  own charas... when I get a colored submission of one of my OCs, especially Callo, I almost always fall over laughing when seeing him with light skin xD That's soooo funny!!)

-Show a little community-spirit! You don't have to read anything an artist wrote, but...
1. When there is an artist-comment in which someone wrote 'Tolls: Photoshop CS4', asking which program the artist used isn't exactly a positive way to get attention from the artist.
2. When the artist writes something like that Tolerance-thing I did a couple of days back, comments in which you tell me about what do I know what and 'that you can apply this and that on the subject too. Or have you already? I haven't read it to the end' is a good way to end in the comment-trash-can as well.

Now that this is done, here a little guide how to do it RIGHT!

-Watch the artist. This is the first step to become very best friends =P lol

-Some artists (me included) write TONS of journals every week with which they spam you to no end (lol) and most of them are totally unimportant... but if there is a lil journal in your inbox with titles like 'Need Advice' or 'HEEEEEELP!!!' it is always worth taking a look and offering your advice... which doesn't mean that if you can give an answer in one single word and 20 others already did that, you have to do the same =P lol Just kiddin~

-Show some interest in someone's art! Imagine you'd get about 20 comments per picture in which people just wrote things like 'Nice','Awesome','Cool job',... would you be able to remember later on who wrote you something?? But then there are others who truly pay attention to details. Simple comments like 'The wings look great and the way you blend in the colors to your lineart is very well done. Good job!" Such comments truly make an artist's day. Or even better, if you got advice for an artist! Now here comes the tricky part: How to be polite and not sound like someone who just wants to critic someone? Very simple! "The wings look great and the way you blend in the colors to your lineart is very well done. Good job! The only thing I noticed is, that the right eye is a little off. But all in all it look cool! Keep at it!" Easy, isn't it? The artist is happy, you are happy, anyone is happy. YAY WE ARE A BIG BIG FAMILY!!

-If an artist draws OCs, it is always good to show interest in them as well. Artists put their heart and soul into their own creations and it means much more to get a positive feedback on an original work than a fanart. Believe me, most artists appreciate that way more!

-If you truly want a request from someone... do something for it. If the artist is holding contests or kiribans, participate in it! That is the easiest way to get a free request. Of course, there is always competition, but the fact that you tried alone is a positive way to get known by the artist! (lol don't take me wrong, this is no surreptitious advertising for my contest! ... Ah well, it is...lol xD)

Okay, done~

As I said, this is for PURE amusement! ^^ Just think about it a little and have a good smirk on this! ;P lol
